Bring out your RED in 2023

At 50, I’ve realized that the real hard work in life isn’t the physical stuff we do.

It’s not the going to work or school, the moving to new places, the raising kids, or the actual physical challenges we put ourselves through.

The real hard work is facing ourselves.

Facing who we are and what we actually want.

Taking the time to listen to and understand ourselves.

Most of us don’t go there.

Either we don’t think about it, or, more likely, we avoid it.

I know because I often hear a version of:

What are your BIG 3 for 2023?

On this last day of 2022, I’m thinking about the blank sheet that is 2023.

A whole new year ahead of us.

A fresh start.

Anything is possible.

And although a lot of what’s going to happen in 2023 isn’t in your control…

Who you are, no matter what happens, is always up to you.

You don’t have to feel the way you routinely feel today.

You can generate new feelings and thoughts anytime you want.

So, 2023 can be the year that you drop old, stale patterns of reacting.

It’s the year you can stop using food or wine to deal with negative events or feelings.

Or you can purposely create a morning routine that generates positive energy for your whole day.

And it all starts with one simple question…

How do you want to feel this year?

It’s the holiday season.

And generally, it’s a hectic time with parties, events, shopping for ALL the things, and navigating the holiday food landscape everywhere you go.

And not having much, if any, time left for YOU.

Between the stress and the treats and no self-care, your HORMONES can easily end up in a tailspin.

Especially if you’re over 45 and in perimenopause.

But, it doesn’t have to be this way.

Halloween Candy: Is it a trick or a treat?

I’m lucky this year.

I’ll be away Halloween night and my kids are no longer on the trick-or-treating circuit.

So, I haven’t bought any candy.

However, I was VERY tempted this week.

At the grocery store, the boxes were right there, and the O’Henrys were practically calling my name.

But I had no good argument.

This year I couldn’t even try to fool my own mind with “they’re for the kids,” or “I’ll hide them until Halloween night.”

And yes, I’ve said those things before… and I just went out and bought more.

Halloween candy is addictive.

It’s a dangerous mixture of nostalgia and highly-paletable, microdoses of sugar.

One is never enough.

How to clear your mind for better mental health

So, earlier this week I talked about why clearing your mind is important.

Basically, learning to clear you mind can keep you mentally healthy and focused.

Because if chaos reigns, eventually melt downs and burn outs will occur.

In this time, where distractions are everywhere, mental health issues have become the biggest threat to our happiness, and in fact, to our survival.

Our minds are largely unfocused, and therefore predisposed to conditions like high anxiety and depression.

We’re directly, and at all times, plugged into work, friends, family, and the world at large.

If we feel even the least bit “bad” we reach for food, alcohol, drugs, Netflix, and more.

Which leads to a host of other issues – physical and mental.

The truth is, none of us are immune to mental health issues.

It’s something I think we all have to take seriously for ourselves, as we grow older, and for those we love and care about.

So, what can you do?

What’s the BEST way to lose weight in perimenopause?

Are you trying to lose belly fat or other body fat you’ve gained in perimenopause or menopause?

Where do you begin?

This question, that I get a lot, can lead to overwhelm and frustration.

Overwhelm because there are so many exercise programs, diets, and ideas out there.

And frustration because what worked years ago doesn’t seem to be working anymore.

So, I want to share what I’ve found to be the BEST place to start if weight loss is your goal – and you’re in perimenopause (or menopause.)

Here we go…
