Self-love and “Women, Food, and God”

If you haven’t yet read any of Geneen Roth’s work, I really suggest you do.

In particular, her book “Women, Food, and God” is a gem.

And if weight loss doesn’t concern you, read it with whatever it is you DO want in mind.

Because she talks about what we put ourselves through to get the things we really want.

The things that consume us.

And in turn, what we consume to deal with the emotions of not having what we want.

It’s about this vicious cycle, this treadmill of self-torture so to speak.

But what I love about Geneen’s book, is that it’s really a love story.

Creating powerful affirmations

It was Louise Hay that first introduced me to affirmations.

(Although it may also have been Stuart Smalley on SNL, but I digress.)

You can check out her many books of affirmations on Amazon or the Hay House website.

I’ve known about affirmations for years.

I’ve read about them, heard about them, even wrote some of them out, but never really applied them as a significant tool for change in my life.

So, obviously I wasn’t really convinced they would work.

But about a month ago, I was inspired to try them again.

Webinar: Belly Fat to Belly Fit – Coming Feb 17th!

I’m really excited to bring you this free webinar!

It’s this coming Wednesday, February 17th, at 12pm, and it’s officially called:

Belly Fat to Belly Fit: How to lose belly fat, balance your hormones, and feel better in perimenopause and beyond

I know that title’s a mouthful.

But I wanted to get it all in there.

I’m focusing on belly fat because waist measurement is one of the simplest and best measures of your health.

And it’s very much related to your changing hormones and how you feel in your body.

And so, if you reduce belly fat, you can improve your health, and at the same time, positively affect your other perimenopause issues, as well as feel a whole lot better in your body.

When I talk about belly fat, I mean the fat that hangs over your waistband.

You might know it.

Are you too attached to the result you want?

I’ve been struggling with this idea lately.

Because, like any business owner, I really want to grow my business.

But I’m realizing there’s a difference between wanting something, and being attached to the result of wanting something.

I mean, can I desire something but be unattached to getting it?

And how does that work?

And for my clients, can they have a strong desire to lose weight and not be attached to that weight loss?

It’s a tough question, but I think I’ve figured some stuff out about non-attachment and desire.

And I’m sharing it with you here…

How do you both accept yourself as you are, and want to change?

Last night I taught a yoga class about the first chakra.

Chakras may sound a little woo-woo, but this first chakra is just about the energy of feeling safe and secure.

It’s the most basic human need.

And part of what makes you feel safe and secure, comes from accepting that you being alive is enough.

That you don’t need to do anything, be anything, or have anything else.

You are enough.

And, to be honest, that’s not always easy.

And, in some ways, it’s kind of counter-intuitive.

Our intuitive thoughts pipe up and say “Well, if I accept myself as I am, then I won’t ever progress, or try.  I’ll just stay the same.

Fake surgery, old thoughts, and moving upward in 2021

Getting older is tough.”

This isn’t a fact.

It may sound like a fact, but it’s actually just a thought.

And I’ve had that thought many times.

Lately I’ve been catching myself having this kind of thought.

It doesn’t feel good to think it.

In fact it feels heavy, and more than a little scary.

It makes me resistant to aging.

And being resistant to aging doesn’t help, because, like it or not, I’m getting older.

Perimenopause 101: Heartburn and acid reflux

Welcome!

As you know, I coach women in perimenopause.

And although many of them have belly fat to lose, many of them are experiencing other fun issues too.

Perimenopause shows up in soooo many different ways.

So I thought it might be helpful to share some possible ways that it might be manifesting in you, or someone you know.

And of course, I’ll share the things I’m doing or others are doing to help ease these issues.

Because although your hormones are changing, and your body is reacting to these changes, there are always things you can do to feel better.

So here we go with one that’s really close to my heart (pun intended)…

Heartburn and acid reflux.

Just a little over a month ago I had heartburn.

And it lasted until… Well, it’s still a thing.

It was kind of worrying me, seeing as I don’t get heartburn.

Almost never.

The last time I remember having it, I was pregnant.

Why you aren’t exercising

You want to be healthy.

Maybe you want to lose weight, or feel better in your body, or not get sick.

And you know that exercise is important.

You know that you’ve got to do it.

You kind of want to do it.

Well, at least you know you want the results of doing it.

But you’re not doing it.

Not consistently.

Even though you’ve got the gym membership, the cute workout clothing, the new shoes, the treadmill, the time,…

You’re still not doing it.

Can you lose fat by breathing?

Being an engineer, I’m a bit of a science geek.

Especially when it comes to the science of the body.

So, if you’re also a science geek, or even if you’re not, I bet you learned The Law of Conservation of Mass.

Basically that’s the law that says in any chemical reaction, mass is neither created or destroyed.

So, here’s a good question for you:

How does fat loss work?

I mean, if you lose fat, and that fat mass doesn’t just disappear, what does it become?
